ARTHA CHESS - END USER LICENCE AGREEMENT
Version 1.0

Please read this agreement carefully before installing Artha Chess. By
clicking "I accept the agreement" and installing, copying or using the
software, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or
use the software.

1. DEFINITIONS
"Software" means the Artha Chess application (the graphical program, its
artwork, sounds, opening book, documentation and installer), and any updates
we provide for it. "We" or "us" means the publisher of Artha Chess. "You"
means the person or organisation installing or using the Software.

The Software also includes separate programs and components that are licensed
to you under their own terms (see section 6). This agreement does not limit
any rights those licences give you.

2. LICENCE GRANT
Subject to this agreement and to payment of any applicable fee, we grant you
a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the
Software on computers that you own or control, for your own personal or
in-house educational use.

3. RESTRICTIONS
Except where section 6 or applicable law expressly allows it, you must not:
  a) sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense or redistribute the Software;
  b) copy the Software, except for installation and a reasonable backup;
  c) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the graphical program, or
     attempt to derive its source code;
  d) remove or alter any copyright, licence or attribution notices;
  e) use the Software's artwork, piece designs or sounds outside the
     Software;
  f) circumvent any licence-key or activation mechanism.

4. OWNERSHIP
The Software is licensed, not sold. We (and our licensors) keep all rights,
title and interest in the Software, including all intellectual property
rights, except as stated in section 6.

5. UPDATES AND SUPPORT
We may, but are not obliged to, provide updates or support. Updates are
covered by this agreement unless they come with different terms.

6. THIRD-PARTY AND OPEN-SOURCE COMPONENTS
The built-in chess engine ("Chess Challenge Engine", in the "engine" folder
of the installation) is a separate program licensed under the GNU General
Public License version 3. Your rights to that engine are governed by the
GPL v3 only; nothing in this agreement restricts them. Its licence text and
source code are included in the "engine" folder.

Other components (including Python, pygame, SDL and the Chessnut piece set)
are used under their own licences, listed in the "licenses" folder and in
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt. Those licences apply to those components.

7. NO WARRANTY
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that
the Software will be error-free or run without interruption. Playing
strength, level descriptions and analysis are provided for training and
entertainment and are not guaranteed to be accurate.

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY
INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA,
PROFITS OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE
SOFTWARE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY UNDER THIS AGREEMENT SHALL NOT EXCEED THE
AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE.

9. PRIVACY
The Software stores your settings, saved games and a log file on your own
computer (in your user profile's application data folder). It does not send
your games or personal data to us.

10. TERMINATION
This licence ends automatically if you breach this agreement. On termination
you must stop using the Software and delete all copies. Sections 4, 6, 7, 8
and 11 survive termination.

11. GOVERNING LAW
This agreement is governed by the laws of India. The courts of Bengaluru,
Karnataka, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.

12. ENTIRE AGREEMENT
This agreement is the entire agreement between you and us about the
Software. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions
stay in effect.
